There will be a start-up 20 rd draft for all the teams to get roster to the minimums required by the LO. All players in the baseball universe are eligible other then FYPD eligible players (INCLUDES CURRENT HS and COLLEGE). After which all left over players will be available for free agency which will start in the beginning of 2012 (date to be announced). The start up draft pool will be all players in the baseball universe not chosen as part of a franchise 20 man keeper list. Keeper lists will be posted in the Start up Keepers section: warningtrackbaseball.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=keep
All players selected in the start up draft will be assigned a contract status.
1- MLB veterans that have more then 2 seasons since eclipsing this leagues rookie minimums will be assigned their real life contracts. Option yrs are your choice at the time of drafting, one time option up front. You either say yes now and assign that option yr to the end of the contract at the option value or say no and drop it off the end. At no time can you go back and change this. MLB veterans that are kept or drafted that do not qualify for WT rookie status and are a real life FA will be kept at their new "rl" contract up to 5 years. That needs to be taken into consideration by the owner at the time of selection with salary being unknown. .
2- "Rookie" status players that have not had 2 seasons since eclipsing rookie minimums or have not passed them at all. They will be assigned a league minimum 400k contract and be listed as protected depending on career #'s. Players with no mlb experience or less then mins. are prospect protected by the rules. A player with career #'s eclipsing those rookie minimums are assigned the same contract and under control until 2 additional seasons since passing #s has passed. Players with 2 season since passing the WT rookie standards are eligible for their teams prospect tag which could keep them under contract for 2 additional years. This rule is in the Free Agency section.
3- Foreign Players i.e. (Japan, Cuba, Poland, etc.) or non-FYPD eligible, with or without a contract to a MLB franchise can be selected in the initial 20 rd draft. If the selected player then fails to sign, the WT franchise will still have to roster this player unless released. They will be protected under rookie contract standards. Upon the completion of the "start up" draft, foreign players signed to rl contracts will have to be bid upon. The bidding process is the same except when posting the player a link will be need to confirm the rl contract signing. They will be bid upon as rookies, only an AAS bid (not yearly breakdown) is needed. The team with highest AAS bid retains that player under the same rookie ab/ip standards but at the winning AAS.
After the conclusion of the 2012 season and each subsequent season to follow there will be a 5 rd amateur draft (FYPD). All the players that have been selected in that years MLB amateur draft and signed by their teams are eligible. This will normally take place 2 weeks following our Warning Track World Series. The order will be the reverse of that yrs final records. All players selected in these drafts are kept at a rookie protected contract of the league minimum of 400k and would follow the rookie rules for contract status.
