A player not listed on any franchise’s roster will be declared a free agent. A free agent can be any professional baseball player, major league or minor league that is not been chosen in the current seasons or will be eligible for the MLB FYPD in the future. When you decide there is a player you wish to try and add to your roster from free agency, you will need to sign that player to a contract. The league’s minimum salary requirement is $400,000 per year. Maximum contract length is 2 years for an AAS of 500K or less. Contracts over 500k can be from 1 to 5 yrs as decided by winning owner.
A player is available to be bid on only once said player has been posted in the the player bidding thread with an opening bid. warningtrackbaseball.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=bid
Each GM can have no more the 4 active auctions ongoing, and there needs to not be more then 40 auctions in total at anytime. This helps keep some kind of order in bidding. Once one of the auctions started by a GM closes they are eligible to then post another player for bid.
Minimum bid increases are 50k for bids less than 1m and 100k for bids over 1m
All bids are submitted as an "AAS" Average Annual Salary.
The bidding on a player is considered over when 24hrs has passed since last bid.
When bidding is closed, the winning GM has 24 hrs from the announcement of award to post contract details. **Please note the penalty will be forefiture of said player, you will also still be reponsible for 50% of the salary if you do not legally complete your FA signing w/in the allotted time.
The Max length that you are able to sign a player to is 5 years.
The minimum and maximum annual contract amounts may not vary more than or less than 25% of the AAS, e.g with an AAS=$5.0M, the annual values for the contract must range between $3.75M and $6.25M
All minor league players contracts will be honored as an AAS and follow the "Rookie Contract" rules at the winning amount.
Players that are bid on IN SEASON, for them to be eligible for your roster the next scoring week, the player must have been won and contract details posted before the preceding Sunday @ 6pm.
At no point IN SEASON can a team place bids that would put their team over the cap/player limits. In the OFF SEASON teams are permitted to be 10% over each (55 players or 11m over cap for 2012).
Once you have been awarded a player and have posted contract details, you have 72 hours to add that player to your roster and FANTRAX. Failure to update may cause you to forfeit the recently won player(s) to the 2nd highest bidder(s).
RFA biding (Restricted Free Agency)
Placing the RFA tag on a player provides a semi protective measure to help a GM retain that player, while not assuring that GM will retain said player. In order to provide some, but not absolute, assistance in that retention, the following guidelines are placed on Restricted FA bidding:
*** There is a 5 year limit on all contracts
Unlike regular free agent bidding, RFA bidding is a closed bidding process. All restricted players will be posted by the League Office on the Monday of the RFA bidding week. Owners will have until Thursday at 6pm of that week to submit bids. All bids should be submitted to the League Office pm account.
When submitting the RFA bid the subject of the PM must be the players name that is being bid on. In the body of the pm it must follow a certain form:
The Indians offer Harry Taint 3 years, $15M
AAS $5M
2012 $3.75M (i.e. minimum salary permitted)
2013 $5M
2014 $6.25M (i.e. maximum salary permitted)
Since the bidding is for a Restricted free agent, the GM who held the restricted player has 48 hours to match the winning bid, and may restructure the contract amount paid per yr. The length of the contract may NOT be adjusted and the yearly breakdown still needs to follow the 25% of AAS rule like all other FA contracts. If the restricting GM chooses not to match the offer, then the winning bidder is obligated to sign the player to the exact terms of the winning bid - there is NO option to remove or renig on any bid placed.
The 48 hour acceptance "clock" will start when the winning bid is posted for said player.
